2020-04-15| Viktor Natykanets

The oldest Belarusian Black-tailed Godwit was still a year older

BTG with orange colour ring NJ was photographed on April 14, 2020 at the Turov meadows (Pripiat floodplain). The bird was aged at least 16 years old, which makes it the oldest BTG ever registered in Belarus.

• First time it was ringed in April 2006, it was an adult male bird then already, which means it was born at least 2 years ago.
• In May 2010 it was recaptured at its nest and fitted with a colour ring.
• 10th of April 2019 it was photographed by Viktor Natykanets from National Academy of sciences
• The world oldest BTG is aged 23 years and 8 months (ringed as a chick) in UK
